Bognet Construction Plans New Office in Maryland

The fast-growing construction firm will expand its base building practice and open an office in Columbia, Maryland.

Tysons, Virginia: Bognet Construction announced the strategic expansion into the Maryland market. The Virginia-based commercial construction company has opened a new Maryland office to host an expanding base building practice. This milestone is a major move for the construction firm which is celebrating its 26th anniversary this month.

“Bognet is entering a new era,” said Trevor Hirst, Executive Vice President of Bognet Construction, “We’re expanding, investing, and strengthening our capabilities to serve more of the Mid-Atlantic Region. We’re fueled with the same entrepreneurial spirit that built our core business years ago.”

The new office will be centrally located in Columbia, MD to serve clientele in Baltimore, Frederick, Annapolis, and surrounding areas. This office will enable the 100% employee-owned firm to broaden its reach in attracting new talent while diversifying capabilities.

“We are excited to open our doors in Maryland,” said Hirst. “We’ve been building momentum in the past few years with more diverse offerings such as multifamily, retail, and hospitality construction. This move both opens us up to new markets and gives us the platform to continually add on new verticals and service lines.”

The new office will host an expanded base building practice. Two recently hired executives will be leading operations of the Maryland location:

  • Matthew Haught joined Bognet in February 2024 as Vice President of Base Building. Haught has over 30 years of experience leading large commercial projects in the Baltimore-Washington region. He previously led the Mid-Atlantic region for a national construction firm as well as management roles for local commercial builders.
  • William “Bill” Barotti, Jr. has joined Haught as the Director of Preconstruction. Barotti comes to Bognet with 35+ years of experience leading preconstruction and construction services several for well-regarded regional commercial construction firms.

“I am excited to be leading this initiative for Bognet. There is considerable opportunity in the region, particularly in Multi-Family, Industrial, Medical Office Building, Hospitality and Senior Living,” said Haught, “Bill and I look forward to building on Bognet’s momentum as we expand its reach.”

Kristopher Car, Vice President of Base Building & Multifamily Construction, will continue to lead Base Building initiatives in the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area and throughout Virginia. Car joined Bognet in 2021 and has over 25 years of experience in the industry. He will continue to be based in Bognet’s Northern Virginia headquarters to serve local clients. His team will be delivering a mixed-use development in DC and an office-to-condo conversion in Alexandria later this year.

Tracey Gardiner, Vice President of Preconstruction Services at Bognet noted the significance of this strategic move.

“While Bognet is mainly known for corporate commercial interiors, we have steadily increased our portfolio of base buildings, retail, hospitality and other types of projects over the years. This new initiative showcases the depth of Bognet’s capabilities and our capacity to serve a wide range of clients across the region.”
