National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) left their office of 14 years — a space in which Bognet completed two previous build outs — to move to a 23,000 SF space located at 1401 H Street, NW. As a nonprofit kicking off construction in the middle of the pandemic, budget was a key concern for NAEYC. The scope included a conference center, pantry, open work space, staff offices, and broadcast studio with many beautiful finishes. The NAEYC sign in the reception area was custom-made with preserved moss to symbolize growth. The architect, Hickok Cole, carried this idea into the design with a playful color palette and elementary shapes used throughout the space. Every conference room entry is boxed in with color and wood, reminiscent of a child’s building blocks. Our team carefully coordinated demountable walls, custom millwork and specialty lighting. There were page turn review meetings for millwork and high coordination meetings with owner vendors (AV tele/data, security).
NAEYC is a large nonprofit association in the United States representing
early childhood education teachers, para-educators, center directors,
trainers, college educators, families of young children, policy makers, and
advocates.
